The Area

During the period 1982-2000, there were roughly 70 million tones of the mineral serpentine excavated from the MABE mine, of which 1 million tons of chrysotile asbestos was produced. The minerals poor in asbestos fibers have been disposed off at the depositions area.

Asbestos

Asbestos, instead of crushing up into dust particles, divides into millions of fine fibers. These fibers can become airborne. The inhalation of asbestos fibers can cause serious illnesses.
